Cataract Surgeries Programme (CSP)
The Cataract Surgeries Programme (CSP) was launched through a collaboration between the public and private sectors. The initiative is designed for patients on the Hospital Authority's cataract surgery waiting list, who are eligible to choose a private eye specialist to perform their cataract surgery. Our specialist at Clarity Eye Centre is one of the designated doctors for the Cataract Surgeries Programme. Qualified individuals are welcome to receive cataract treatment at our centre.
Services and Fees of the Cataract Surgeries Programme
Patients participating in the Cataract Surgeries Programme can choose a private eye specialist under the program to provide pre-surgery assessment, cataract surgery including the artificial lens, and two post-surgery examinations as part of the cataract treatment service.
Qualified patients only need to pay a self-payment amount not exceeding HK$8,000 and receive a fixed subsidy of HK$8,000 to avail of the service. Once the private doctor completes the cataract surgery, the Hospital Authority will directly pay the subsidy amount of HK$8,000 to that private doctor. Eligible exempted patients can have their fees waived under this program.

Eligibility for Cataract Surgeries Programme
Patients automatically qualify for participation in this program if they meet the following conditions and do not need to apply:
1) Patients have been on the Hospital Authority's cataract surgery waiting list for 18 months or more;
2) Patients with the longest waiting time will be invited first; suitable for local anaesthesia surgery;
3) General waiting cases, and other urgent or early cases, will be prioritized for surgery arrangements, hence is no need to go to private medical facilities separately..

How to Apply for Cataract Surgeries Programme?
If patients qualify, they do not need to apply themselves; the Hospital Authority will prioritize inviting cases with the longest waiting time. If a patient wishes to schedule cataract surgery with a private doctor after participating in the program, they can follow these steps:
1) Register with the Electronic Health Record Sharing System (eHealth).
2) Choose a private doctor and contact them to arrange a pre-surgery assessment.
3) Provide the registration number on the invitation letter to the doctor for eHealth to confirm the subsidy amount. (Note: Once the subsidy is confirmed, it cannot be changed.)
4) Once confirmed, schedule the cataract surgery.
5) Patients must also note the "Subsidy Expiry Date" on the invitation letter; surgery assessment must be completed before this date and cataract surgery within 3 months after the assessment. After completing the cataract surgery, the private doctor will require the patient to sign and confirm the completion of the subsidy return form.
