SMILE®pro Laser Vision Correction
Introducing the new German technology, SMILE®pro Laser Vision Correction, which operates at a high frequency of 2 MHz, effectively reducing the laser correction time for a single eye to just 10 seconds, significantly alleviating the psychological burden on patients. The upgraded SMILE®pro also features astigmatism axis navigation and visual axis navigation, enhancing the efficiency and safety of vision correction while reducing potential risks. Like the previous generation SMILE, SMILE®pro uses femtosecond laser technology to reshape the corneal curvature through the creation of a micro-lens, thereby correcting myopia and astigmatism.
Differences Between SMILE®pro & SMILE

1. The laser time for one eye has been reduced from 23 seconds to 10 seconds, making it safer and faster.

2. Recovery time after vision correction is shorter.
3. Incorporating visual axis and astigmatism axis auxiliary navigation positioning improves the accuracy of vision correction.
Process of SMILE®pro Vision Correction
1. Using a femtosecond laser to directly cut the middle layer of the cornea.
2. Creating a small incision of approximately 2-4mm.
3. Extracting the cut corneal lenticule through the incision.
Dr. Ho Chun Ho Explains the Differences Between SMILE Pro and SMILE
Candidates Suitable for SMILE®pro
- Myopia less than 1,000 degrees and astigmatism less than 500 degrees
- Over 18 years old
- Fully developed eyes with stable myopia
- Normal corneal thickness
- Individuals concerned about the inability of their eyes to focus for extended periods
Post-Operative Care Instructions for Vision Correction
- Experiencing watery eyes or discomfort (such as a sensation of sand in the eye) is normal and indicates that your vision has not yet fully stabilized
- Avoid driving until your vision has stabilized
- Prevent soap, tap water, or dirty water from entering your eyes during the first week post-surgery
- You may apply light facial makeup approximately 3-5 days after the surgery. Be cautious when removing makeup to avoid getting makeup remover in your eyes (using makeup remover oils is not recommended)
- Refrain from using eye makeup for two weeks after the surgery, as eye makeup contains various chemicals and even glitter
- Avoid using perfumes or hair spray post-surgery to prevent irritation

FAQ
-
What Are the Differences Between SMILE and SMILE®pro? The surgical principles of SMILE and SMILE®pro are the same, but SMILE®pro has a faster laser frequency. The laser procedure for one eye takes only 10 seconds, compared to the 23 seconds required for the previous generation SMILE, more than doubling the speed. This significantly reduces patient anxiety and discomfort. Additionally, SMILE®pro has upgraded laser positioning with visual axis and astigmatic axis navigation assistance, reducing the time needed for manual positioning by the doctor, making the surgery more accurate and smoother.

What Are the Differences Between SMILE/SMILE®pro and LASIK?Both SMILE/SMILE®pro and LASIK laser vision correction involve reshaping/removing corneal tissue with a laser to change the curvature of the cornea and correct vision. LASIK requires an initial laser cut to create a corneal flap before reshaping the middle layer of the cornea. In contrast, SMILE/SMILE®pro directly cuts the middle layer of the cornea with a laser and then removes it. By eliminating the step of creating a corneal flap, SMILE/SMILE®pro significantly reduces the wound area by 80%, leading to better wound healing and faster recovery.

What Is Enhancement Surgery? If there is a degree of regression after vision correction surgery, we can perform enhancement surgery based on the situation. However, this is not common.
-
Is SMILE/SMILE®pro 100% Effective in Curing Myopia? Many patients believe that vision correction will result in zero myopia and even better vision than wearing glasses or contact lenses. This is a misconception.
Vision Correction Success Standards:
Achieving the pre-determined target degree within ±75 degrees is considered successful ; Less than ±75 degrees is considered normal vision.
According to literature, the success rate of achieving within ±100 degrees three months after vision correction is nearly 100%;
With approximately 97% within ±50 degrees
If the degree exceeds ±100 degrees after vision correction, an enhancement procedure can be performed to improve it. -
How Long Does It Take for the Fog to Clear After SMILE/SMILE®pro?The situation varies from person to person. Generally, the fog will clear within two weeks to one month after vision correction.
-
Are There Surgical Risks with SMILE/SMILE®pro?All surgeries carry risks, but the risks associated with SMILE/SMILE®pro vision correction surgery are relatively low. Common conditions include:
Under-correction/over-correction
Reduced night vision
Seeing ghost images, glare
Dry eyes
Most of these conditions can be improved with treatment and generally do not cause long-term effects. If necessary, please consult your doctor. However, vision correction cannot change complications caused by myopia, such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, and macular hemorrhage.
